Angarsk (Russian: Ангарск) is the third largest city in Russia's Irkutsk Oblast, after Irkutsk and Bratsk. It is an industrial center, located on the Angara River, about an hour from Irkutsk. Hitchhikers rarely end up in Angarsk because a bypass road was built east of the city for the Moscow Highway (Moskovsky trakt), which also bypasses the town of Usolye-Sibirskoye and the village of Telma. These places had many correctional facilities, and hitchhiking was difficult due to the population. The bypass is a major relief for hitchhikers.
