It is with great sadness that we learnt that on 14th of September 2025 our good friend and hitchhiking buddy Ralf "Platschi" Platschkowski went on his last journey to heaven.
Platschi was one of the early Hitchwiki members and played a big role in building the european hitchhiking community. He was co-founder of the abgefahren hitchhiking races and the competitive hitchhiking club DTSG. He was also involved in the organization of European hitchhiking gatherings. Platschi was an inspiring personality, who convinced a lot of people to see the world with the eyes of a hitchhiker. He joined almost every hitchhiking race or gathering in Europe between 2007 and 2011, where many of you would have crossed paths with him.
In 2012 he moved to Uruguay, where he lived in a house by the beach with his wife and kids ever since.
We will miss you dearly, Platschi and will keep many great memories and travel stories with you in our hearts. We wish you thumbs up, where ever you may be now, and we hope you had a pleasant ride to heaven.

Help to make Hitchmap more open-data and enable more in-depth hitchhiking research by allowing to share your profile information.
The idea here is that profile information is not downloadable in a tabular format at the moment, allowing your profile information to be part of such a downloadable dataset research into hitchhiking research e.g. regarding gender, safety, age can be accelerated. And you allow other developers to build up on the data from hitchmap.com.

Questions about how to hitchhike certain ferry connections are amongst the most popular in the Hitchwiki chat and on reddit. Thus a List of ferries that can be hitchhiked page was set up to gather up-to-date information about this matter. Have a look and do not hesitate to add your latest knowledge to it.

A common format to tag official hitchhiking stops on OpenStreetMap was established. Alongside, all historic spots that used a different way to tag hitchhiking places were altered to adhere to the newly established standard. Now you can assume that this overpass query will give you all official hitchhiking spots that are mapped. Feel free to build upon this.
