To get north, it is best to cross over the bridge that links Ziguinchor with the mainland. Continue walking a few kilometers past a makeshift checkpoint and it will be easy to get a ride. You might have to wait a while and there is little shade, but there are plenty of taxis and a few private cars that come by frequently.
