\AND ONLY HAVE A PLACE FOR MY STUFF ONCE I GET THERE; IM HOMELESS AND WAS LIVING IN THAT VAN LOL I JUST CANT BE HOMELESS ON THE STREETS IN THE DEEP SOUTH BECAUSE I HAVE A HEALTH CONDITION AND I GET HEAT STROKE LITERALLY EVERY DAY HERE CUZ MY TEMPORARY HOUSEMATES I WOULD GENUINELY DIE
My name is Cain, 20something female. I usually have a big ol van with a mattress in the back and my partner and I frequently offer free rides to strangers we meet on the road or arrange with online, sometimes cheap rather than free if we aren't already heading that way. I have helped people move, flee domestic violence, start an adventure, make it to a funeral, flee consequences, ride 14 hours home from prison, introduce a homeless elderly couple for the first time in person and then drove them to Vegas. I've also had plenty of my own adventures in it...unfortunately, lots of them traumatic. The last voyage of Vern was no exception; I am still dealing with the consequences 9mos later. (The van was named Vern. Vern the Van was nothing special...a plain white work van with no windows..but he had a mattress and the front seat reclined. So those hitchhikers sometimes became travel companions.
NEED A RIDE AROUND AUGUST 15TH, NEW ORLEANS TO DETROIT, MI with 1 more person and LOTS OF STUFF incl. mattress.

It is ME and my partner and a very large heaping of stuff that need a ride this time. It's everything I own; looking at it THAT way, it is not much, and it wouldn't fill a small uhaul, but it contains a mattress and enough clothes, props, art supplies, and decor (mostly clothes!) to fill a work van with a tight but totally doable amount room to lay the mattress out on top of most of the bags and sleep on it, with a few bags in the corners
The stuff and i are in two different locations in suburban New Orleans (Jefferson Parish), very close to one another - the stuff is with my temp. housemate's dad and NEEDS to leave town with me.
Can't afford shit either, definitely not paying uhaul AGAIN - but I can either help with or completely cover gas (and maybe some fast food!) depending whether you are already heading there or are doing this just for me, in that order.
Unfortunately, though, my van has been impounded and I was and definitely am now too broke to pay for its release from Car Prison.. And I did nothing wrong aside from being poor, of course. This was all due to a mistake by Triple A....they towed it to the wrong building, and the van doesn't start or drive, and I was MID-MOVE when it happened...so I made it to (city, state), and the van was 3 hours away in Bumfuck, (otherstate)....I had to go back in a UHAUL and get my stuff MONTHS later; thank God the impound lot guy was chill with us doing that.
I LIVED in that van, and this forced me back into the rent system, where I WAS IMMEDIATELY ROBBED BY MY ROOMMATE AND HAD THE COPS CALLED ON ME FOR BEING AN ESCORT (I know...I lead a storied life...please tell me when I can have FUN adventures again...it's been nothing but this shit for my entire 20s) and can't tent camp because I was in the Deep South (still am.....and it's far too hot here to tent camp with my disability..or at all..I get heat stroke multiple times daily as I am not allowed to hang out where I sleep and am forced outdoors....there is nothing I want more than to hitch a ride myself and my partner and get us the hell OUTTA HERE. Problem: one top-to-bottom vanful of stuff I don't want to get rid of and already spent uhaul money to get it THERE from where the car was towed and then paid uhaul to MOVE IT AGAIN ALL THE WAY BACK TO NEW ORLEANS--THE SAME COUCH WHERE I WAS BEFORE ANY OF THIS SHIT---AFTER THAT WOMAN ROBBED ME
