Naberezhnye Chelny (Russian: Набережные Челны) is the second largest city in Tatarstan, located on the left bank of the Kama River in the Volga region of Russia. The city was built for the needs of the local automobile plant and consists of residential "complexes".

Hitchhiking out

West towards Kazan via M7

  • After the interchange at Djamili Avenue, follow Kazanskiy Prospekt up to the dam. Many people ("seals") stand here trying to leave for money, as there is no railway connection with Kazan and the bus is expensive. Drivers usually expect payment upon arrival in Kazan, about 2/3 of the bus price. If you do not intend to pay, warn them before boarding!
  • The nearest bus stop to the interchange is "Polyclinic №2", served by buses 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 21, 22, 35, and 43.
  • There is a DPS checkpoint and weight control post before the dam, and another one on the other side. If a local gives you a ride, it makes sense to go up to the checkpoint to separate from the "seals".

East towards Ufa via M7

  • Tram number 7 and 4. Get off at the stop "Sady Turbina" ("Turbina Gardens"). Cross the Liteynoye ring and walk 1 km along Metallurgicheskaya street.

North towards Izhevsk via R320

  • The Izhevsk interchange is 13 km from the dam towards Kazan on the M7.

South towards Almetyevsk via Almetyevsk Tract

  • DPS checkpoint near the "Kama" car market. You can get there by bus 1. Slightly earlier is the "Final (Forge Plant)" stop for bus 7.

South towards Sarmanovo

  • Take buses 13 and 26 to the "Gostev Avenue" stop. Walk past the 21st complex to Kazanskiy Prospekt, cross it, and on the other side is Starosarmanovskaya street. There may be some transport on this street beyond BSI, but it is not visible in 2GIS.

To the M12 "Vostok" Toll Expressway

  • At kilometer 1014 of M12, there is a rest area with a gas station in both directions. Reachable from Nizhnekamsk to the village of Shingalchi. Bus 107 from Nizhnekamsk bus station runs four times a day.
  • South of Naberezhnye Chelny is a new interchange of M12 with the road to Sarmanovo. Bus 104 from Krasnye Chelny to Tlyanche-Tamak passes through it three times a day. Bus 995 to Sterlitamak also runs here. If you do not want to depend on these infrequent buses, you can hitchhike on Starosarmanovskaya street.
  • Slightly eastwards from the Sarmanovo road, there is another M12 interchange with a local road near the village of Komsomolets. Bus 105 from Krasnye Chelny runs here several times a day.
  • The last (as of early 2025) M12 and M7 interchange. Hitchhiking is possible from Metallurgicheskaya street in the eastern industrial zone of the city.
