Khakassia (Russian: Республика Хакасия) is one of the most beautiful and convenient regions for hitchhiking in Russia. It is located in the Siberian Federal District and borders Kemerovo Oblast, Krasnoyarsk Krai, the Republic of Tuva, and the Altai Republic.
The administrative center is the city of Abakan.

Major roads
- The federal highway R257 runs through Khakassia and near the capital connects to the Abakan — Ak-Dovurak road. The most developed road sections are: Abakan — Sayanogorsk, Abakan — Beya, Abakan — Abaza, Abakan — Sorsk, Bograd — Shira — Kopyevo, Kopyevo — Priiskovy.
- Roads to other, smaller settlements are mostly dirt roads, although these are currently being replaced with paved roads.
- M54 passes through Khakassia from north to south reaching Abakan and then crosses to the right bank of the Yenisei.
- A161 starts in Abakan and heads south to Ak-Dovurak in Tuva.
